HostGator Hosting problems uploading images

Normally I would highly recommend HostGator as a great hosting service, however PrestaShop is not a normal shopping cart. It is a resource hog specially when using the built in Import engine.

HostGator will timeout PrestaShop's import scripts roughly every 30 seconds. This naturally makes it a pain to upload images. For those of you that want to stay with HostGator, I've modified the STCtoPresta popup file so you can see this timeout and below I'm posting the best procedures for getting the images uploaded on a Shared Hosting service with HostGator. Please be prepared to spend at least 5 hours of your time doing these procedures.

The below assumes you’ve setup Quick Access to STCtoPresta and Import. See Tools >> Quick Accesses to add.

  1. Upload the attached file to /modules/stctopresta
  2. Chmod /modules 0755, chmod /modules/stctopresta 0755 if you haven’t already.
  3. Open PrestaShop back end, use quick access to navigate to STCtoPresta
  4. Click “Check to have popup displayed”

  5. Click “Create Images CSV File”
  6. When the green progress bar stops Click quick access and navigate to Import!
  7. Set “Select which entity to import” to Products and click Next Step!
  8. Set “Skip Lines” = 1
  9. Change the last field “Categories” To “Image URL
  10. Press “Import CSV Data” once pressed, use quick access to navigate to STCtoPresta
  11. Bring Popup page to foreground and wait for the background to turn aqua blue.

  12. When it turns Aqua blue, repeat steps 5 to 11.

NOTE: Occasionally during the time it takes to finish everything, the popup page may show an Internal Server Error. Just right click the popup and refresh.
